Lynne Brewer

Hi, I'm Lynne - and honestly, I'm having the time of my life.

After years of one day I'll paint every day, one day finally arrived. I'm recently retired (well, semi-retired - more on that in a sec), and I've handed myself the job I always actually wanted: showing up to my home studio each morning, brush in hand, ready to make something that makes me smile.

The Work

I paint in acrylics, and I have a bit of a secret weapon: colourful, complementary underwashes. Before I put down a single brushstroke of the "real" painting, I lay in bold, unexpected colour underneath. It's what makes the finished work pop - that inner glow you can feel but might not be able to explain.

From there I paint loosely and freely. No tight lines, no fussing. I'm chasing the feeling of a thing.

My inspiration comes from where I live.

The Okanagan Valley, British Columbia is impossibly generous with its beauty - and I paint what I see. Bears and moose moving through the landscape. Sweeping valley vistas that change with every season. The shimmer of lake life. Orchards and vineyards heavy with colour and possibility. And yes, sometimes the completely unexpected - because if it makes me smile, it finds its way onto my easel.

Why I Paint

There's a kind of wonder that sneaks up on you when you're really looking at the world - really seeing it - and that's what I want to share. Joy is underrated. Playfulness is seriously underrated. I believe art on your wall should make you feel good every single time you walk past it.

That's the brief I give myself every morning. 🎨

A Bit More About Me

Here's the semi-retired part: I also work as a care aide at a local long-term care facility. It keeps me grounded, connected, and reminded every single day of what matters. The people I meet there - their stories, their humour, their resilience - quietly find their way into how I see the world, and probably into my paintings too.

I came to daily painting later than some, but I think I needed the life I've lived to paint the way I do now. These days you'll find me layering colour, occasionally making a glorious mess, and sharing the whole adventure right here.

Pull up a chair. I'm genuinely glad you're here.
